PROJECT MIND
The Conscious Conquest of Man & Matter Through Accelerated
Thought
by David S. Devor (T. Kun)

Summary of CHAPTER 7:
Special Conditions Needed To Promote Accelerated Thought
This is the gate of the Lord through which the righteous may enter.
(Psalms 118:20)
An experimental framework or pilot plant, Project Mind, will be created
in order to demonstrate the viability of Accelerated Thought. [page 83]
Guides will be selected who will thoroughly familiarize themselves and
identify with subjects' intentions and aspirations and, when needed, provide
encouragment. [page 83]
The main input guides will provide is a high quality of attention, empathy,
comprehension and esteem to be accorded subjects. Nor will subjects be
brought in contact with one another and risk cross-contaminating their
psyches with the internalized distraction inherent to the subjectivity
of each. State-of-the-art computerization and on-line data retrieval will
furnish "objective" input needs - imaging capacity, scientific data, etc.
- pertinent to each subject's quest. [page 83]
The process of Accelerated Thought is initiated by applying unusually
sustained "pressure" to conventional reflective thought. This means intensely
concentrating or meditating on a problem to which we are most deeply committed
to solving. [page 85]
As his efforts advance, the subject becomes increasingly captivated
by his research, and motivated in the extreme to find the "secret" that
leads to a new theory, understanding or invention. [page 86]
Such an effort must gradually bring about a radical modification in
the functioning of the subject's mentation, in the way he experiences himself,
and in how he experiences outer reality. [page 86]
... Each small discovery fuels the enterprise with the promise of success.
Each new light shed on the problem helps to illuminate the subject's mental
field of view, providing the energy to reduce it further to the essential
kernel of truth he is seeking. The subject can become absorbed in his thoughts
much longer than we conventionally consider normal or proper for an act
of concentration. [page 88]
Eventually, the subject narrows his vision to a nuclear complex of elements
that becomes the embryonic nucleus of a new consciousness. [page 89]
As the excitement peaks, the subject, to his amazement, discovers that
the pursuit of truth contains a uniquely personal key to self-understanding
and inner coherence which in turn leads him to a new, rectified integration
with the world at large. [page 89]
... An efficacious effort of intentionally focusing attention on problems
or ideas, charges them, in turn, with the light of awareness, investing
them with meaning and rendering them potent and able to attract even more
energy. [page 90]
We experiment with the functional configurations of what we could reasonably
call our "energy field," which is the experiential testing ground from
which emerges our experience of ourselves - our Being. [page 92]
External, "scientific" experiments, on the other hand, although lacking
in most of these advantages do have the virtue of public reproducibility
and corroboration. In this kind of struggle, however, it is our reflective
thought that is exercised and not our Being. Information is accumulated,
not consciousness. [page 92]
Precious few ever realize that a repertoire of good habits and clever
responses does not comprise an integral presence - or even a conscious
part of ourselves. [page 93]
...Rather it is one of awakening from within ourselves a conviction
that a real life exists above the somnolent one we are now living. [page
94]
We are reluctant to admit the horrifying fact of our conscious non-existence
until we become convinced experientially of the possibility of change.
[page 94]
We can encounter our mechanicality when trying to concentrate ... [page
94]
There is no place in us for something truly new, without first recognizing
the very frightening limitations of the old. ... We must have some compelling
reason to face the identity-annihilating chaos of transition. [page 94]
The pioneers of Accelerated Thought, by virtue of their heroic effort
and its transforming effect upon matter, will lift from our minds the veil
- the excessive weight of distraction - now preventing most of us from
even glancing in the right direction. [page 95]
... in a world largely free of trouble and anxiety, where work for material
gain is no longer necessary or interesting, we will be obliged by want
of materialistic directions, to apply ourselves to that which remains -
the neglected side of ourselves: our spiritual lack. [page 95]
Only objects of thought compatible with the already animated, light-infused
forms comprising his present consciousness will be able to nourish the
flame of expanding awareness. [page 96]
Once the subject's objective (the object of his hopes, dreams and personal
struggle) is revealed to lie in one clear direction, distracting irrelevancies
are brushed aside and tremendous energy is freed for use. [page 97]
His direction and circumstances now simplified, our subject's consciousness
is suddenly able to accumulate energy and evolve. [page 97]
This is somewhat analogous to the stage in the birth of a star which
in the fledgling state, as a huge ball of gas, accumulates sufficient pressure
and mass to produce the intense heat necessary to trigger the fusion chain-reaction
that renders stars the brilliantly luminous suns that they are. [page 98]
... But now, using the force of his new consciousness which is beginning
to manifest the process of Accelerated Thought, he can bring a whole new
energy to bear upon the task of understanding and mastering matter. The
embryo of a new, transformed science will have formed. [page 101]
In summary, this second, self-sustaining, plasma-like, self-awareness
stage on the way to Accelerated Thought contains within itself the illuminated
idea-universe which constitutes the core of interest that the world and
life hold for the subject. [page 100]
The third ...leg of his journey now begins as our subject shifts his
rectified attention from the subjective world of abstract and aesthetic
forms and relationships towards the more concrete world of matter. [page
101]
... - those exceptionally creative individuals who seem to appear on
the scene only every few generations. Their unconventional vision is often
so at odds with that of their colleagues, and so far in advance of their
field, that these geniuses - when finally recognized - are sometimes suspected
of having brain structures very different from normal. [page 101]
... His new vision of matter, his genius, was part and parcel of a new
awareness, a new relationship which he himself developed towards himself,
time and matter in flat disregard for and irreverent defiance of convention.
He could not have attained this vision without a burning interest in his
subject, sufficient self-respect to take his own intuitions seriously,
and the conviction necessary to follow through against all odds. [page
