    Key duties:  

    1. Programme Development  

    • Take the lead in developing a strategy and Programme Area Plan in Youth Livelihoods including an enterprise development component - as part of the development of the new Country Strategic Plan
    • Contribute to the strategic planning process by facilitating needs assessments and participatory stakeholder workshops, involving volunteers and a range of other stakeholders
    • Comprehensively assess organizations and agencies to determine their future potential as partners with SLYEO within the Youth Empowerment strategy. Identify how best SLYEO can contribute to the institutional needs of Community Based Organisations
    • Contribute to raising the profile of SLYEO’s programme within Communities in Sierra Leone, networking with government agencies, donors and other international agencies.
    • Identify and develop fundable projects and programmes from within the programme area plan; together with the Programme Director and Village AiD Africa Programme Coordinator, turn these into fundable proposals.
    • Programme management: budgeting and tracking expenditure, implementation of specific activities, monitoring and evaluation, financial and narrative reporting.

    2. Office Administration: 

    • Maintain appropriate files and documentation of all programme development, implementation and programme correspondence and activities
    • Liaise with administrative staff, as appropriate, on the whole range of logistical support activities associated Project development, implementation and reporting
    • Ensure that all donor contracts are complied with, including narrative and financial reporting

    3. Other Duties: 

    • contribute to national promotional activities such as special events, newsletters and developing external reports, etc
    • assist or take leadership in emergencies as required

    Capacity Building Officer , SLYEO Freetown (May 2002 to May 2004)

    Duties:

    (1) Work closely with NGOs identified for partnerships with SLYEO to ensure that:

    • proposals submitted by the NGOs and draft agreements prepared by the staff members meet SLYEOs requirements;
    • NGO partners submit (progress and financial utilization) reports timely,and that the reports are of an acceptable technical quality;
    • Perpare Training modules for staff and local communities
    • Monitor the relevance of our training on the target beneficiaries and communities;
    • Conduct monitoring and supervision visits to DFID supported projects implemented by both Government and NGOs and also provide technical guidance to training units and curicuilum developer of the Ministry of Education;
    • Constraints in implementing agreement are identified and brought to the attention of the Director in a timely manner.

    (2) Systematically compile, update, manage and provide on request, school and district data based on agreed Indicators;

    (3) Prepare reports highlighting progress and constraints, and making appropriate recommendation with respect to:

      a) The distribution and usage of supplies
      b) The implementation of NGO agreements

    (4) Provide technical support and develop partnership with Government and other UN agencies-ensuring the efficient use of project funds, supplies and CAG liquidation, monitoring and supervision of projects and respond to emergency education situations and needs of displaced children, refugees and war torn communities.


    Vocational Guidance and Small Business Officer – Women For International Peace and Arbitration – USA (WIPA-USA) Sierra Leone Chapter (October 2001 – April 2002)

    Duties:

    • Provide guidance, counseling and information to job and training opportunities in the field of vocational, Technical and Administrative skills, business management and career and trauma counseling especially for demobilized soldiers, war-affected youth, women and disabled persons;
    • Work with the Ministry of Labour and Industrial relations to collect information from private and public training institutions as well as from NGOs, enterprises and other employers on training courses and apprenticeship possibilities;
    • Liase and coordinate with career counseling departments in training institutions, schools, private recruitment agencies and NGOs;
    • Communicate with employers on gender sensitivity in job advertisement, select and give advice on suitable applicants for them and on organisational behaviour and man power development needs;
    • Do female job seeker registration;
    • Give information sessions in schools and training institutions on the services of the Employment Information services centre, child labour issues and self employment in national development;
    • Offer training on small business development to business vocational training institutions, and local business associations country wide;
    • Assist the Co-ordinator with the day-to-day administration and development of the programme;
    • Assist in the collation of all reports directed to the ILO Area Office in Senegal. Advice the Co-ordinator on all plausible working relationships that would be established with other organizations.
    • Served as the focal point for the GTZ (German Technical Cooperation) for the Basic Education Programme

    Resource Person/Trainer: for training of social workers, communities members of war devastated communities (November 1999 – January 2000) in areas of Trauma healing, conflict resolution, role of psychosocial support services and the counseling process in the recovery of post war Sierra Leone. Organized by COOPI and by UNDP/NCRRR Preventive development programme.

    Resource Person/Trainer: for training of members of Petit traders Union of Sierra Leone on local product marketing strategies and business entrepreneurship development supported by the ILO/ Ministry of Labour via the Peace consolidation, Capacity development and self employment promotion project components (2001/2002)

    Resource Person for training of psychosocial caregivers, Career guidance and capacity building Officers to Veteran/ex-combatants organized by the chaplain department of the Sierra Leone Military Force & Point Man Ministries International U.S.A. (1999)


    Human Rights Officer for Grassroots Empowerment for Self Reliance (GEMS) in Sierra Leone. (Aug 1999 – May 2000)

    Duties:

    • Assist the Project Manager with the development and day-to-day management of the project
    • Advice management on plausible collaborating Human Rights NGO partners and related working Government Ministeries
    • Train teachers, medical practitioners and nurses in displaced persons camp and war devastated communities on on their civic rights and responsibilities
    • Identify, Prepare budgets and oversee the use of local available resources for the implementation of Human Rights, Peace building and community development programmes involving children, women and youths earning.
    • Monitor and reports human rights violations in communities and nationally in collaboration with other human rights organisations
    • Perform and supervise counseling sessions on different social problems held in displaced camps and communities by staff members of the team and also develop trauma and stress reliefing activities for the children.
    • Assist with analysis and collation of report both for internal use and for international donors and organisations


    Training and Small Scale Business Development Officer for the Civil Society Movement (CSM) of Sierra Leone (Voluntary Job) (April – July 1999).

    Duties:

    • Perform trauma healing and counseling services in displaced camps.
    • Liase with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and NGOs intervening in youth empowerment programmes
    • carry out awareness raising programmes on youth livelihood and participation in governance and other decision-making processes.

    • Organise small business and agricultural development units for young people within the displaced camp as a way of ditraumatisation and earning of living for the displaced persons
